Through Heather and Harvest Fields
On my morning walk, I headed out along the quiet country lane. Along the hedgerows, wild brambles were producing some fruit.
There were blackberries from unripened bright green to ruby red and deep, glossy black. With the sunny weather we've had, I'm sure we will have blackberries in abundance this year.
I walked alongside a large field where round hay bales sat scattered on the ground. A small dirt track led toward an old wooden gate, with the moody sky overhead.
Just beyond an old stone wall with the pink rosebay willowherb growing next to it, came the sight I had been waiting for. The heather was in full bloom with the lone tree on the horizon. The moorland had transformed into a purple blanket.
Looking closer across the moor, I spotted a couple of sheep grazing right in the middle of the heather, nearly hidden among the deep purple bushes. Can you spot them?
It was a nice refreshing stroll. The last few days there has been a slight change in the weather. There is a coolness and a welcome breeze in the morning, so I'm hoping it is the first signs of autumn after the heat.
