Epic Fail: Metal Detecting on the Beach

It's my first time posting in the Silver Blogger's Community, so as the great Tina Turner once sang, be tender with me baby!

Whenever I can, I like to go metal detecting. Unfortunately, you have to have permission to detect either from the local authority or land owners, etc. Fortunately, on the beach, it's a free for all, no permission needed, so off we went to the beach hut.

As well as my metal detector, I took my Garrett pinpointer with me, which is a small handheld detector. They're to use when your main metal detector has flagged up a potential target. Once you've dug a hole, the pinpointer will tell you the exact place the "treasure" is by either beeping or vibrating. Because of it's colour it is always referred to as the Garrett Carrot! Well, on my first few signals, I just couldn't find anything, so I thought maybe my detector had picked up some iron oxide in some pebbles.

On my second proper signal, I got my trusted personal digger, my friend's dog, to start digging. He can dig for England!

Between the pooch and I, we found a shopping trolley token. Sometimes, you have to put a pound or a token deposit in your shopping trolley. It's to get shoppers to return the trolley once they've finished their shopping. Around my area, they've mostly disbanded the idea, so the token was as useful as a chocolate fireguard. It looked good, though.

My next signal was something shiny, which turned out to be a five pence piece. I was hoping to find a lot of loose change, but alas no. I didn't get any more signals after that. It looked like the beach was too clean.

I did see another detectorist out and about so perhaps he found everything, leaving me with Jack Shit. Oh hum.

Let's just say it wasn't a successful day as far as metal detecting goes, but it was a lovely day, and what a better way to spend it.
