Warsaw – Phoenix City – Poland

Hello to all who love travel and adventure. Today I will write to you about my visit to Warsaw, the capital of Poland. Many say that it is the most beautiful city. However, I liked another city much more and I will write about it another time.I arrived in Warsaw by plane from Belgrade and then took a bus into the city. My wife wanted to stay in the new part of town so she could go shopping. I granted her wish, and once she set off to shop, I headed toward the Old Town Arriving. Upon arrival, I headed towards the Church of Saint Anne. I climbed to the top, ascending 150 steps. At the summit, there is a large terrace offering a beautiful view of the Old Town as well as part of the new city. Naturally, that is exactly where I took my first photographs.

I set out to explore the city. Warsaw was eighty percent destroyed during World War II, but it was rebuilt according to old blueprints, so it looks just as it did before. That is why it is called the Phoenix City.It is a relatively small part of the city. I visited the Royal Castle, the square in the very center, and the Barbican. The Royal Palace has served many kings and rulers. It was also restored after being destroyed. It houses original paintings by Rembrandt and a 17th-century violin made by Antonio Stradivari. In the square in front of the palace stands the city's oldest and tallest monument—the monument to Sigmund.

In the center of the Old Town there is a large market square where market days are held. Around the square there are buildings. they sold souvenirs, street food, there was everything.I ate at a restaurant right on the square.

In the central part of the square there is a monument to the Warsaw Mermaid, which the locals affectionately call Sirenka. The image of a mermaid has been on the official coat of arms of the city of Warsaw Although it is not entirely clear how it came to be, according to folklore, the river mermaid Melusina showed Duke Boleslaw II of Masovia the place where he should build his capital. Today, almost every other souvenir that can be bought here has the Warsaw Mermaid on it.

After I stayed in the square and looked at the souvenirs, which were in abundance, we decided to head towards the Barbican Tower from the 16th century. Barbican is a fortification that was located in front of the entrance to the fortress, and whose task was to protect the entrance to the city.

After passing the Barbican Tower, you leave the Old Town and enter the new part of the city. The Warsaw Uprising Monument is located near the Polish Army Cathedral.

I continued on and visited the Sopen Museum and Marie Curie's house

A little further down the same street, towards the New Town, stand the monument to Nicolaus Copernicus and the Church of the Holy Cross, which houses Chopin's heart. Although he was buried in Paris, his heart was transferred to this church in accordance with his will. Also along the way, one can see the University of Warsaw, the Hotel Europejski, and the Presidential Palace.

I headed back to the new town. What we couldn't help but notice is that Warsaw has a large number of modern and tall skyscrapers. We didn't expect such a Warsaw and that's why we were really surprised. My wife bought a lot of clothes, which are much cheaper than here. And their food is not expensive.
