Starting first grade has been quite a challenge. We have been getting used to a new schedule that is more difficult for both of us. Being there at 7 a.m. means getting up a little before 6 a.m., and sometimes that is difficult for Angel and, if I am very tired, for me too.
The school has a way of punishing children for being late: those who are not there when the bell rings and the national anthem is sung must do so alone afterwards, which can be embarrassing. It's not really a punishment, but for them it's always better to do it with their classmates. This has motivated my son to get up and get dressed faster.
There were some awkward situations at first, which made my son feel uncomfortable during the first few days. He was pushed around and even hit by a classmate, but the good thing is that he told me about it and I was able to talk to the teacher in time. Since then, everything seems to be going well. Angel is very quiet, which makes it difficult for him to make friends.
So far, he says he doesn't like recess. He sits alone enjoying his snack and sometimes looks for one of his cousins to play with, but he's already in second grade and they only get to spend a few minutes together during recess because the teachers try to protect the little ones in first grade. I know this is just a phase and he'll gradually adapt.
This year, he no longer shares a classroom with my niece Camila, and that is one of the biggest changes. They were used to being together, but the good thing is that they always spend some time together when they leave school.
Academically, Angel is doing very well. He is already learning to read, writing better and better, and coloring very well. These photos are of his first assignment. He was asked to draw a picture related to Mérida, since it was the anniversary of its founding, and another for October 12.
I helped him by showing him some ideas for reference, and he did his drawing as he liked. He was happy when he finished, so I thought I would keep these photos as a souvenir and share them today. I would also like to receive advice on how to act if the bullying continues at school.
I will read your comments. Have a great weekend.
Until next time, a million blessings to your families.
