A Great "What If" Scenario

The Marvel Comics One-Shot "Reckoning War: Trial Of The Watcher" presents a great "what if" scenario. Dan Slott's story is based on the vicious war between the Reckoning and the Watchers, which ended up involving the Fantastic Four, as well as other superheroes. The Watchers were the inventors of some of the most advanced weapons many moons ago. The Reckoning was supplying this weaponry to some of the most destructive alien races. During this conflict, the Reckoning destroyed the moon which was the home of a Watcher Uatu. Having sworn to never interfere with conflicts, Uatu decided to break this rule against the wishes of the other Watchers.

Javier Rodriguez's minimalistic artwork with its white background presents a perfect representation of Uatu being brought forth in front of his fellow Watchers to answer for the breaking of his vow to not interfere. Ikor, Uatu's father, forces him to watch what would have happened if Uatu hadn't stepped in to aid the Fantastic Four. Uatu's fears are visualized as he views the Fantastic Four suffering irreparable damage at the hands of Galactus.

However, Galactus does get destroyed and the Silver Surfer is now free to explore areas he wasn't able to before. It gets even worse as to what Uatu prevented. It seems that the same energy that was used to defeat Galactus, which was discovered because Uatu didn't interfere, was also able to be used to solve many of Earth's problems, such as hunger and pollution. Now that the Reckoning have returned, Ikor firmly believes more than ever that inaction is the appropriate action.
