Subtle Hope

SUBTLE HOPE

Subtle hope
seeps through the
naked branches
as the sun
refracted
clothes them
in warmth

I remain
in the shade
barely moving
into the flickering light
camouflage paints me
disguised and cold

Waiting
for signs of life
watching my breath
frozen
slide forward
into the nothingness
I requested

But maybe
just maybe
the light
will melt away
the shadows of doubt
