CARTE BLANCHE

The walls are the same
as they always were
removing pictures
reveals bright wallpaper
underneath

And phantom squares
that create their own
collage of silent memories
so silent they almost
do not exist

We take for granted
and complain about monotony
until it's taken away and
becomes a dream
just out of our reach

Then we wish
for another day
to start fresh
clean
tabula rasa
carte blanche

But fate has other ideas
and tarnishes
the pristine thoughts
and desires of the
dreamer
