Juicy Dumplings in Toronto

In a previous post, I made a food post about Hero Dumplings. Hero Dumplings is linked with the Juicy Dumplings food place in the Chinatown part of Toronto. I think both places are linked with the same family. I used to eat a fair bit from Juicy Dumplings 5 years ago. I revisit this place.

Juicy Dumplings Store

Juicy Dumplings is a fast food joint at the corner of Spadina and Dundas in the Toronto Chinatown area. This place specializes in steamed soup dumplings with pork inside (Xiaolongbao/XLB). They also have pan fried dumplings, pan fried green onion pancakes, tempura shrimp, wontons and steamed buns.

It has been five years since I have visited this place. I come in at around 4PM outside of lunch busy hours. The place is kind of packed as there is not much seating. They removed the tall chairs by the shelf. I guess you go there to stand and eat.

They have installed two touch screen ordering machines similar to Hero Dumplings. You can order from the machine and pay with credit/debit. There is still the option to order at the counter.

Xiaolongbao As Snack Small Order

For a snack, I order their mini steamed soup dumplings with the pork filling. The price was $4.99 CAD for 6 pieces. Five years ago it used to be something like 2.99 or 3.99. Costs have gone up.

I received my order really fast. It was not fast food, it was instant food. My order was ready in less than 1 minute. I guess they have the steamed dumplings ready in their steamers.

I do think that if you order the pan fried items, the wait times are longer. I once ordered green onion pancakes a while back and it took more than 2 minutes. Your wait times and experience can vary depending on what you order and what time of day you visit.

The dumplings were good overall. Take small bites at first so the soup does not splatter around. The filling has some pork with a little bit of soup inside.

My Rating is 8.5 out of 10. The food being ready in almost an instant made give a score of 8.5 instead of 8.

This place is still popular as it was 5 years ago. A lot of young people like going here as the prices are low especially that Toronto's cost of living is kind of out of control lately.

If you are in the area, give Juicy Dumplings a try.

Thank you for reading.
