Claustrophobia and Depression.

Hello Everyone. I hope you all are doing well. This blog of mine is going to be little different but give it a read its going to be worth it. Mental health is something many people struggle with, Nowadays it is not very uncommon condition almost everyone to some extend face challenges mentally yet it's often difficult to talk about openly. Today, I've decided to share a personal case of my internship journey which was something new for me as well. not because I have all the answers, but because I hope my experience might help someone else feel less alone.
In this post, I'll talk about the claustrophobia and depression due to claustrophobia which one of my client experienced how it affected his daily life, what helped him cope, and the lessons I've learned along the way.

Symptoms

Feeling panicked e in small spaces and closed spaces
Rapid heartbeat and palpitations sometimes leads to skipping a heart beat
Shortness of breath
Sweating
Trembling or shaking
Tightness in chest or pain
Dizziness and feeling faint
Nausea or vomiting
A strong urge to find escape
And a depression period after a claustrophobic episode
Insomnia due to depression
Lack of appetite

Trigger Point

The patient reported that the first trigger for him was when he was walking on a crowded road and became trapped in heavy traffic, surrounded by vehicles and motorcycles.

Analysis

The patient was almost 68-year-old man who came to us and shared his experience the first time he had experienced such symptoms. He explained how t occurred that he was unaware of claustrophobia until that day, while he was walking outside, he became stuck in heavy traffic, surrounded by vehicles and people basically from rush areas. Suddenly, he began experiencing nausea fear, panic, and other symptoms associated with claustrophobia.
Before going for diagnosis, he became extremely worried about his condition and what happened to him at this stage of life he feared that it might be a serious medical illness. These persistent worries caused him anxiety and emotional distress, eventually leading to symptoms of depression. He was also experiencing insomnia (difficulty im sleeping) loss of appetite, all of which affected his daily functioning.

Treatment

As part of the treatment, we taught him deep breathing techniques, including how to inhale, hold his breath, and exhale step by step and actually practiced them with ourselves. We also introduced progressive muscle relaxation techniques to help reduce his anxiety. Im which we let the patient knows how to make muscle stress and release to relax In addition, we conducted several Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) sessions and scheduled follow-up appointments to monitor his progress.
Since he was also having depression, we referred him to a psychiatrist. Although his depressive symptoms were not that severe, considering his age, we wanted to make sure that he received appropriate guidelines and medicatiom to improve his sleep and appetite.
With these treatments and regular follow-up, his condition improved significantly over time.
The purpose of sharing this case experience is to encourage others not to feelpanic if they or someone around them experiences similar symptoms like this elder man Seeking professional help early can make a huge difference and greatly improve quality of life. Thank you.
