Today I will be glad to share with you the making of this Princess Dart Bustier Lace Gown – Step-by-Step Guide.
This elegant fitted gown features a princess dart bustier, structured waist, and puff long sleeves.
Materials Needed
3 yards lace fabric
2.5 yards lining (matching color)
Medium interfacing (for bustier)
Zipper (18–22 inches)
Thread, scissors, chalk, pins
Measurements Given
Shoulder: 15
Bust: 35
Bust point: 9
Nipple to nipple: 7
Under bust length: 13
Waist: 28
Waist length: 15
Empire line: 24
Hip: 38
Sleeve length: 22
Sleeve round: 12 / 10 / 7
STEP 1: Draft the Bodice (Princess Bustier)
Fold your lining fabric into two. Draft first on lining before cutting lace.
Mark your shoulder (7.5 on fold) and draw a straight line.
From shoulder, mark waist length (15 inches).
Mark under bust (13 inches) and empire line (24 inches).
Divide bust (35 ÷ 4 = 8.75 + 1 ease = 9.75 inches).
Divide waist (28 ÷ 4 = 7 + 1 ease = 8 inches).
Bustier Shaping
Mark nipple to nipple (7 ÷ 2 = 3.5 inches) from center.
Drop bust point (9 inches) from shoulder.
Draw a curved princess line from shoulder through bust point down to waist.
Separate into center panel and side panel.
STEP 2: Cut the Fabric
Cut 2 center front pieces and 2 side front pieces (lining + lace).
Cut back pieces (add zipper allowance).
Transfer all markings to lace.
Add 2inch seam allowance all round.
STEP 3: Sew the Bustier
Join center front to side front panels, matching bust points.
Sew slowly along the curve for a smooth bust shape.
Repeat for lining.
Fuse interfacing to bust area for firmness.
Join lace and lining together (right sides facing), turn neatly.
STEP 4: Attach the Skirt
From waist down, mark:
Waist to hip (standard 9 inches or use body)
Full length
Draft skirt:
Hip: 38 ÷ 4 + 1 = 10.5 inches
Shape down to fitted knee
Cut front on fold .
Join skirt pieces to bodice at waistline.
🔒 STEP 5: After sewing the dart for the back
Insert zipper neatly at the back.
Leave 8 inches opening below for walking slit.
Fold and stitch slit edges clean.
STEP 6: Sleeve (Puff + Fitted Long Sleeve)
Draw sleeve length 22 inches.
Use sleeve round:
Upper: 12
Elbow: 10
Wrist: 7
Puff Head
Extend top sleeve width and gather slightly.
Add extra fabric at cap for puff effect.
Sew sleeve and gather top slightly.
Attach neatly into armhole.
