One more attempt - Adjusting the engine timing [ENG/SPA]

Since June 20th I have been working on my car and I still cannot get it to start. Although nobody is participating like before in Hive Motors, I keep sharing my process because I had never experienced something like this before. It has been more than a month without being able to solve it, I have relied on professionals, I have read and followed the workshop fault manual step by step, I have checked the engine side wiring harness, I have checked each sensor, I have replaced what is bad and I still cannot get it to start.

Un intento más - Ajustando el tiempo del motor

Desde el 20 de junio vengo trabajando en mi carro y aún no logro encenderlo. Aunque nadie está participando como antes en Hive Motors, no dejo de plasmar mi proceso porque nunca antes había vivido algo así. Ya es más de un mes sin poder solucionar, me he apoyado con profesionales, he leído y seguido paso a paso el manual de fallas de taller, he revisado el ramal de cables del lado del motor, he chequeado cada sensor, he reemplazo lo que está malo y aún no logro encenderlo.

The logic of having the three key elements for ignition: spark + fuel + air, was my anchor to check that the associated components were working well. These three elements are present, but the car does not start. I finally decided to check if the car's timing had been lost, since when trying to start there have sometimes been backfires, a sign of lack of synchrony.

La lógica de tener los tres elementos claves para el encendido: chispa + combustible + aire, fue mi ancla para revisar que los componentes asociados estuvieran funcionando bien. Estos tres elementos están presentes, pero el carro no enciende. Decidí finalmente revisar si el tiempo del carro se había perdido, ya que al intentar encender han habido en ocasiones contra explosiones, señal de falta de sincronía.

To know if the car is in time I must check three elements. The camshafts, the belt and the crankshaft position. In this car the damper has a small mark that is located according to the clock hands at 3, which indicates that the pistons and the crankshaft are in the correct position. When evaluating this part I noticed that cylinders 1 and 4 were slightly lower, almost imperceptible, which led me to look at the camshafts.

Para saber si está en tiempo el carro debo chequear tres elementos. Los árboles de levas, la correa y la posición del cigüeñal. En este carro el damper tiene una pequeña marca que se ubica según las manecillas del reloj a las 3, lo que indica que los pistones y el cigüeñal están en la posición correcta. Al evaluarlo está parte note que los cilindros 1 y 4 estaban ligeramente bas abajo, casi imperceptible, lo cual me llevo a mirar los árboles de levas.

These have some notches in the rear part that must be aligned with the cylinder head. With a thin and straight metal piece I could notice that one of the camshafts was not aligned. This suggests to me that the timing belt somehow jumped and moved. How did it happen? I could not find any trace of why, so I still must put everything in its place and adjust well.

Estos tiene unas muescas en la parte posterior que deben estar alineadas con la culata. Con una pieza metálica delgada pude notar que uno de los árboles de levas no estaba alineado. Esto me sugiere que la correa de tiempos se salto de alguna manera y se movió ¿Cómo paso? No puede encontrar indicio de porque, así que igual debo poner todo en su lugar y ajustar bien.

The hard part of this work is doing it alone and without tools. But I have plenty of will power, so with just a hacksaw and a small file, I manufactured the wedge from a steel plate to hold the camshafts. With a screw that fit perfectly I held the crankshaft and secured everything to bring the car to time.

Lo difícil de este trabajo es hacerlo solo y sin herramientas. Pero voluntad me sobra, así que con solo una segueta y una pequeña lima, fabrique la cuña de una platina de acero para sujetar los árboles de levas. Con un tornillo que calzo perfectamente sujete el cigüeñal y asegure todo para llevar el carro a tiempo.

I just loosened the screw that holds the camshaft sprocket that moved. Then I put it in position and adjusted the sprocket again. This part did have me worried because perhaps due to the lack of correct torque, this camshaft moved. Fortunately a neighbor has a torque wrench and I could apply the 70 lbs/ft that this screw requires. Now I just need to finish assembling the rest of the car and test the ignition, hoping that this is finally the cause.

Solo afloje el tornillo que sujeta el piñón del árbol de levas que se movió. Luego lo puse en posición y ajuste nuevamente el piñón. Está parte si me tenía preocupado porque quizás por la falta de toque correcto fue que este árbol de levas se movió. Por fortuna un vecino tiene un torquimetro y pude aplicar las 70 lbs/pie que requiere este tornillo. Ahora solo me falta terminar de armar el resto del carro y probar el encendido, esperando que está sea finalmente la causa.
