Electrical Integrity Analysis - Troubleshooting Persists and New Setbacks Part 2 [ENG/SPA]
Today, I’m bringing you an update with part 2 of my work on the vehicle, following the number of error codes thrown in the last diagnostic, which you can check out in my previous post. In that post, I mentioned that one of the persistent errors had to do with the MAP sensor, but that the two oxygen sensors had been added to the mix.
The job involved verifying the physical integrity of all the related wiring, and what I found was a lot of dirt and a connector that was nearly loose due to a broken anchor. Also, the corrugated insulation was already quite toasted from the engine heat, just like the electrical tape.
I had to wash the whole area with degreasing soap, but not before disconnecting the battery and waiting for the energy from all the internal ECU components to dissipate. Then, I used slightly stronger solvents to remove the grease and oil that remained even after the degreaser, which finally gave me a better view of the wiring's integrity.
Honestly, everything looks really good. If any of the faults originate from the cables, it's due to the dirt, because they aren't broken, they aren't sulfated, and they certainly don't show any signs of a short circuit. This worries me because I still haven't determined the reason for so many faults; all that's left is to replace the MAP sensor and hope the oxygen sensors are okay.
After cleaning the cables and connecting everything back to test it, a new problem arose: the car battery died. It only had 6 volts stored, so I asked a neighbor to help me charge it with a charger he has, but the battery wouldn't hold the charge it received. When you check it visually, you can notice it's starting to bulge on the sides.
With the help of a friend, we tried it with his vehicle's battery, but the car still won't start. Now the problem has escalated; I have to buy at least the MAP sensor and a new battery to keep trying to start it, praying that the oxygen sensors are fine and that the ECU hasn't been affected.
