Every Sweat Counts

It takes passion to become one…

Why do people dance?
For some, it’s their way to show the joy they are feeling.
Others would dance to release the pain they’re into.

For these young souls, they dance because they are ought to.
Later on, their feelings change when rehearsals start;
from being forced to being driven,

They dance simply because they want to win.
And from winning, they gain popularity not just for themselves,
but also for the municipality they belong.

As they keep on practicing day by day,
their intentions change; from being driven to being passionate.
They realize that every bit of energy they have comes from the Creator.
And by dancing, they glorify and praise God.

What could be some hindering factors?

Being a festival dancer requires time management.
Managing one’s time is a great factor, especially when you are a student.

For these dancers, learning academics during sunrise,
and dancing on twilight is a great challenge.
For some, they encounter drowsiness, worse an ill health condition.
They would occasionally cut or leave classes, since their body could no longer take it.

Another hindering factor is the pressure they face at home, in school, and in the dancing field.
Other dancers would hear scornfully abusive remarks from their own family members, classmates, teachers, and their dance choreographer.

At some point, others would quit due to poor resistance to the negativities they encounter.
It's 'matirang matibay'.
Only the determined ones would survive.

During street dance, a flood of sweat flows all over their body.
Others would not take the heat of the sun while dancing along the highway.
Thirstiness and tiredness would lead to fatigue.
Some would experience exhaustion, and would literally give up.
Others would continue to dance until they drop.

When they reach the platform where they would showcase their talent, tension arises.
They would feel anxious and sometimes chill out of nervousness.
At the beginning of their performance, their mind is floating.
The crowd would be cheering for them.
That’s the time when their confidence comes back.
And from then, the thirst for winning would prevail.
They would give their best shot as if it’s their last.

You might wonder why people keep on joining festival dances despite the aforementioned consequences.
Look into their eyes, and you will directly see the answer.
