Ride the Lightning! - Part 2
So let me just start by saying I promise this didn't take me all this time to finish the painting. I just started another project straight away and didn't get a chance to show Hive the finished piece. But here she finally is!
I had got the jet to a point where I was happy to focus on the background however there were still small details that needed adding. So I did so at the end of adding larger background items using the leftover paint. So as these progress pictures are posted, the jet should gain small bits of definition with every picture.
The mountains in the foreground were added here...
And a lot of time went into adding the background details. I used a lot of browns and blues which ended up being much more colourful than the reference picture.
Carrying the finished board outside was a big moment for me. I realised that the room I was painting in was very dark, and buying a ring light was just putting a band-aid on a huge wound really. The painting was suddenly much brighter than what I had been seeing for months, and imperfections that I had missed were suddenly visible.
But I was still immensely proud and happy for this to go on display. I just know for the future that I need to put more effort into background sky and clouds!
And here she is on display in the RAF support sections kitchen. Soon to have extensions added either side to hang mugs from without damaging the main piece. I'll be sure to make another post once that's done.
It's been hanging up for over a month now and several visitors have asked where it came from, so I felt like some shameless self advertising was in order.
