Skyrim VR

Once I saw Bethesda's Skyrim VR announcement, I couldn't possibly imagine how a game, as robust as Skyrim, can possibly be enjoyed in virtual reality. Hours of storyline, placed in a massive game world - how Bethesda, HOW?!

Graphics

Graphically, bringing Skyrim to VR makes sense. The outdated graphics were pretty much perfect, meeting the standard of VR visuals. The size of the world, however, was a problem. VR objects only look good and sharp when relatively closed to the camera (your head). As a result, most of Skyrim's world was very blurry and pixelated, straining your eyes while playing for extended periods of time.

Gameplay and controls

Overall, the gameplay is pleasant. With two different locomotion systems, the developer provides you with enough customization to achieve your preferred playing style. Bethesda also perfected the game controls and user interface, selecting weapons and scrolling through items was very intuitive, as every game should be.

Due to the many hours of gameplay required, however, the free run locomotion system, while being the easiest to use and most pleasant in the short run, can sometimes turn into a severe motion sickness hangover, once you exit the game. This problem is common throughout the industry, but unnoticeable with other VR games which tend to have shorter gameplays.

Price

Well, there's no easy way to say this... Skyrim VR is expensive!

Steam: USD59.99

PSN: USD59.99

In conclusion, if you're a massive Skyrim fan, don't mind spending hours wearing a VR headset and have a spare USD60 lying around, being able to "enter" you favorite game in first person is definitely worth it. Otherwise, you can always wait for Steam sales!
