In the Age of AI

This is a mainstream report by Frontline for PBS on the rise of Artifical Intelligence (AI), and what it will mean for all areas of our lives. It includes the usual array of experts, as well as people affected by AI: workers, patients, and so on.

The film is quite long at two hours, and is divided into 5 sections: China has a Plan (to overtake the US in AI); The Promise (of what AI will be able to achieve); The Future of Work; The Surveillance Capitalists (Google, Facebook and big data); and The Surveillance State (China and authoritarian states).

The bias shows very much in the last two chapters, as Alibaba, Tencent, and WeChat are as much about capitalism as Google is; and the domestic surveillance is as bad in the US as it is in China, and can have similar consequences.

Nevertheless, it is worth while watching to get a broad overview of what is happening, especially as the rate of change in this area is accelerating very quickly. At least this will bring you up to date in many areas of the subject and reflection about it.
