Omnipotent Amazon
This is a look by DW documentaries at the ever-growing empire that is Amazon. The main question is asks is: is Amazon getting too powerful, even to the point of knowing more about us than we do ourselves.
The film follows the same popular format that we see these days: interviews with recognised experts, illustrated events, and balanced narration, that makes you wonder where the makers stand at times.
The presentation is interesting, if a bit mundane, for most of the show, but they finally get round to the big questions of privacy and power towards the end of the film. We also get to hear from Soshana Zuboff who has written about Surveillance Capitalism.
Do we really want a world where our every movement, every action, every thought is monitored by corporations whose main purpose is profit? And how much of that information will they share with the governments who give them license to operate?
