June 28 daily prompt - There's no Job for Bob

Robson’s family waited years for children. After a lot of waiting with prayers and doctor's visit. When the ultrasound showed two heartbeats, they cried for joy. Twins on the way. Their arrival was smooth and they named them Rob and Bob.

Rob was the dream baby. He slept alot after feeding. Played with everyone and hit milestones like he was checking a list. Bob was the plot twist. He was clingy, cranky, and slept very little. If Rob was peace, Bob was a protest.

The first year was survival mode. They split shifts. Mom took Bob. Dad took Rob. Rob was soothed with a song. Bob needed to be held, walked, rocked, and sometimes just tolerated. All he knew was to cry for affection and giggle when full.

When they took their first steps, the parents was excited. Rob walked straight to his toys. Bob walked straight to the wardrobe.

That night, Robson Senior joked, “Rob has a job with the good toys.”

Bob’s mom didn’t laugh. She was tired and said “There is no job for Bob.” A job for Bob is inviting more chaos.

She was right. Bob didn’t need employment or engagement with anything. The moment he could walk, he became the chaos officer. Clothes- toys scattered, colouring on walls, torn papers, open doors, the drawers were not safe with him if not locked.

Bob wasn’t unemployed. He just had the whole house as his active workplace.
