Shooting On Village Time

Approaching the point where it starts to get difficult to keep track of exactly how many times I've made it down to the Shaker Village at Pleasant Hill, Kentucky. Have long since exceeded the point of having 'enough' photos of all the old 19th century buildings there.

Along with the peace and quiet, that's a large part of what keeps bringing me back. My natural inclinations tend towards what I think of as surface level photography, basically 'see thing, shoot thing.' While that's all well and good for some things, others call for a different approach, one that sees beyond the surface.

That doesn't come easy for me, which is where Shaker Village comes in. After multiple visits, the surface level is well and truly mined out, makes it much easier to focus on seeing it differently.

Time moves differently down at the village, and although it doesn't affect shutter speed, it does alter how you see things.

Will be heading back down there in a couple months, we're working our way through seeing the place in all four seasons. Or what passes for seasons around here these days.

Anybody else got a place they go to practice seeing?
