Promises are commitment
Good day, amazing people of Hive Blockchain. Welcome back to my blog. It is another edition in the #hivelearners community. I am so delighted to participate in this week's prompt, a broken promise.
I don’t know if I am the one that you promised me something. You are in debt; whenever I see you, I will always ask you of your promise. You should not make a promise to someone you can’t fulfil the promise to. Once you broke a promise, it means you are not trustworthy. Most people see promise in a mere word; that is why they will make promises without fulfilling the promise.
I realise how powerful a promise is; that is why I don’t make promises if I know I can’t be able to fulfil it. For me, 'promise' means I am indebted to the person I made the promise to. I also see 'promise' as 'commitment'. That is why I try my best not to fail any promise. It is always painful if one is disappointed; it may lead to frustration. Not keeping a promise is capable of ruining a relationship.
Some time last year a friend of mine was having financial challenges; she needed to pay her school fees but had no funds. I promised to help her, and by the end of the month she was so optimistic that help was coming. It is never my wish to disappoint her, but life, they say, is not predictable. A few days before the end of the month, my dad was hospitalised, and he was booked for an operation. I emptied my account to save my dad's life. When I remember the promise I made to my friend, it is already too late because I don’t have any cash with me.
At this point I don’t know what to do because she put all her hopes in me. I called her to explain things to her, and I must say she was so disappointed and broken from her voice; I felt the pain, but there is nothing I can do. Most times it is not our will to break a promise. I was so pained that I was unable to keep to my promise. I will not lie; it ruined our relationship.
I have also experienced broken promises; believe me, it hurt very much, and if not handled well, it may cause depression. The most heartbreakingpromise I have ever received was when I lost my dad. My friends tried their best to make sure they assisted me and some family members. A few months before the burial, the majority of them send in their cash and the things they promised me. There is this friend of mine that promised to provide all the drinks I will use at my dad's burial.
A few days before the burial, he called me and said he would not be able to fulfil his promise because something came up that he invested his money into. I was like, Why didn’t you tell me this on time so that I would know how to sort myself out?. At this point I don’t know what to do. I was so confused I was crying like a baby. I was so disappointed. I wish I never trusted him, but it is too late. I have no other option than to source means and buy drink for my dad’s burial. If I may say, I was so pained and frustrated.
I have learnt to be careful when it comes to promises; if I know I can’t keep to the promise, I will not give the person hope. A promise is a commitment; when you make one, try to keep to it.
This is my response to the weekly prompts #hivelearners community #hl-w172e1 topic: broken promise.
