Making a railroad track anvil

Anvils are very expensive, besides bring a large lump of steel, second hand anvils are often quite old, so despite being beat up and damaged they attract a premium.

I eventually plan to acquire a new anvil, However on the meantime I received a piece of railroad track about 700mm long so the task was to convert it to an anvil shaped object.

The process took a couple of weekends to complete using a large grinder.

I also built a stand out of laminated pine glued and banded together which looks good I think.

After further grinding and polishing I have now started to use it, and it works really well.

I still have a little more grinding on the bottom to do and I will need to drill and file a hardy hole, but considering all I have in this project is time and the wood for the stand I am very happy with the result. Thanks for reading my post.
