Mukteshwar : Famous for the breathtaking views of the Himalayas and green mountains...
Mukteshwar is situated at an altitude of 2286 meters (7500 ft) in the Kumaon hills. From here, peaks like Nanda Devi, Trishul etc. of the Himalayan mountains are visible. There is a temple of Lord Shiva on the top of a hill which is situated at a height of 2315 meters. This temple is famous by the name of 'Mukteshwar Temple'. To reach this temple one has to climb about 100 stairs. Along with Lord Shiva, Brahma, Vishnu, Parvati, Hanuman and Nandi ji are also present here. There is a gathering of monkeys outside the temple.
There is a lattice of Chauli built in the rocks near the temple. It is also called 'Chauthi Ki Jaali'. This place is along with Mukteshwar temple. This place can also be reached by climbing a little mountain. It is believed that there was a war between the goddess and the demon here. It is a mountain peak with a round hole on its topmost rock. It is said that if a childless woman passes through this hole, she will be blessed with a child. A beautiful view of the valley is visible from the top of the mountain.
If the weather is clear, one can see the beautiful view of the sun rising behind the Himalayan mountain peaks in Mukteshwar and mountain ranges like Nalkanth, Nanda Devi and Trishul can also be seen. Here is the Indian Veterinary Research Institute where research on animals is done. This institute was created in 1893. There is also a museum and library where old objects and books related to research on animals have been preserved.
Although one can visit here at any time of the year, but the best time to visit here is from March to June and October to November. If you go here in summer then carry light woolen clothes and if you go in winter then carry heavy woolen clothes. Here the maximum temperature in summer is 30 degrees Celsius and minimum is 15 degrees and in winter the maximum temperature is 23 degrees Celsius and minimum is 0 degrees Celsius. Snowfall also occurs here in January.Since Mukteshwar is a small hill station, there will not be many options for accommodation and food here, but there is no problem in accommodation. There are many places worth seeing around Mukteshwar.
If you go to Mukteshwar, then definitely buy the dry potato vegetable and onion pakodas available here. Onion pakodas are served with chips, while spicy dried potato pakodas are served without chapati...
