April Garden Journal

The rainfall has begun to thin, and it's time for me to start filling my garden with a variety of vegetables.

Some plants I've just sown. Others are plants I've already planted. They're now mature and nearing harvest.

Come with me to see what plants I have in my small garden in front of my rented house.

In the raised bed at the front of the house, I've just transplanted a bitter melon plant and a string bean plant.

I'm using a companion planting system for both the bitter melon and the string bean plants, so I've created a trellis for both plants.

In the same raised bed, I also still have two tall chili plants. They're almost a year old and still bearing fruit.

Furthermore, below, above the gutter, which I've covered with bamboo slats, I've just planted marigolds. I've recently transplanted several potted marigold plants into pots where I've sown them from seed.

Meanwhile, two potted marigolds are already flowering.

I also just transplanted two-colored Chinese spinach seedlings into polybags. It rained heavily a few weeks ago, so I had to transplant the spinach in a safer location first to avoid damage.

On the other hand, I have curly chili plants planted in white polybags. They're bearing fruit abundantly and will soon be harvested when the curly chilies change from green to red.

In the back, I have several cabbage plants growing well alongside basil plants. The cabbage plants are completely pesticide-free, as I planted basil.

I also planted ginger from kitchen scraps that had sprouts. It's been a month since I started growing those sprouts, and they've grown into lush, green ginger leaves.

Soon, I'll be transplanting these ginger plants into a raised bed.

Meanwhile, there are other plant seedlings that haven't been transplanted yet.

There are red onion seedlings. They're still two weeks old.

I regularly expose them to the morning sun to keep them healthy.

There are tomato seedlings that will be ready to be transplanted in a few days. ❤️ Well, happy gardening!
