An Ingenious Pot Holder! - Simple things that make Life more Fun

The acorns made it obvious.
We leached our first batch of gathered acorns from the woods in a large pot on the wood burning kitchen stove. When it was time to change the water, my man got the one potholder that we had, looked around and asked me: Is there a second one in the house?

There was not!
But I was quick to announce that I could easily make one. So he wouldn't have to use an ordinary kitchen towel next time.

Also I'm always happy about a useful needlework project that I can work on in the evenings 😊

This blue one was made and gifted to us by my Mum.
I really like the concept of it, so simple and yet very functional. Just the way I love it.
You can put your hand in it to be protected from the heat of a handle and it protects your table from burning when you put the pot onto it.
And it's easy to make!

I don't know where my Mum had found the pattern, but I just used hers as a reference. It took me a minute to get the concept, but when I had it I was amazed by how simple it was.

It's basically a little bag, you start with one line and then just crochet round and round until it's the right height to fold it to a square.

Here you can see how the bag is slowly taking shape 🤗

At some point my orange wool was used up, but I found a very similar one, similar strength and fabric, in my collection of wool.

I love when things like that happen, I love improvising, and usually the outcome is even better than I had planned.
It looks so much prettier and more exciting in those vibrant contrasting colors 😊

I forgot to take pictures during the last part of it, so here you already have the end result in its bag form ^^

Now it has two triangle shaped bags that I can put my hand in.
Genius!

I thought about putting a pair of eyes on it, then it would also be a cute glove puppet!
So multifunctional!

It was a happy moment, when we leached the second (or third?) batch of acorns yesterday and had one potholder for each hand.
No hand got burned 👍

It's these small improvements that make me especially proud and happy. Every day we cook our meals on the wood burning stove, so we have to deal with hot pot and pan handles all the time.
Life is made up of little things, ordinary things mostly, and it's just so satisfying to be able to make them a little easier and so much more joyful 😊
