One scary night
I wasn’t in the mood to go on a family trip so I decided to stay home alone for the weekend. I’ve never had to sleep alone in this big house. I’m honestly starting to doubt if I made the right decision. It’s midnight and everything looks fine so far.
The house was so quiet except for the humming of the fridge and the tiktoks I was watching. I decided to put my phone aside and catch some sleep. Sometime after midnight, I woke up to a strange groan in the night.
My thoughts started running wild, was it a thief or ghost?
I stayed quiet to hear it again, maybe I was imagining. I heard it again, a tired groan.
I picked up a big stick I keep under my bed for security and tiptoed out of my room to find the source of the sound. The sound of my heart beat suddenly seemed too loud. I carefully tiptoed to the kitchen, ready to attack and there was the thief wearing a black hoodie and he was ransacking my fridge? Is he hungry?
I tiptoed closer, he didn’t seem to notice my presence, clearly occupied by whatever he was looking for in the fridge. I raised my weapon to hit him and almost immediately he turned around and we both screamed in shock.
It was my brother, he was supposed to be in school. I was so relieved but what was he doing back home past midnight? He didn’t seem to care still carefully looking for something to eat.
I couldn’t help the sigh of relief that escaped my lips. “Maybe I should’ve smacked your head, so next time you’d call before coming home.” I said to him as I made my way back to bed.
I could hear him laugh in response.
