The Barnum Effect

Smoke.jpeg

Oh, please. Just a fancy name for gullibility.
The theory of the tell.
Studies have shown that when given vague descriptions,
subjects tend to rate them as accurate.
A gesture which belies an underlying reality.
No one wants their tells categorized and used against them.
The appeal of astrology and fortune-telling.
Clearly, critical thinking isn't a strong suit.
A system of avoidance.
Cold reading is a technique used to get information from a subject.
Embrace coincidence.
Cold readers use loose statements to get information.
Then act on it to seem knowledgeable.
It's all smoke and mirrors.
"There's a sucker born every minute."
This text is meant to persuade, not inform or delight.
Subjects tend to believe things that seem generally true.
We interpret information in a way that confirms their existing beliefs.
Who needs facts when you have feelings, right?
