AFRI-TUNES WEEK 193// IMELA BY NATHANIEL BASSEY// COVERED BY @AKWASH360
Hello amazing people, it’s your boy @akwash360. I’m delighted to take part in the 193rd edition of the Afritunes prompt, where I chose to do a cover of the song Imela by Nathaniel Bassey, one of my favorite Nigerian gospel artists. I truly appreciate his songs because they are filled with deep, meaningful, and insightful messages.
This particular song made my day so much that I had it on repeat. It does not only have a beautiful rhythm but also carries powerful words of gratitude to God Almighty. The Igbo word “Imela” simply means “Thank You.” For me, these are perfect words to glorify the name of the Lord. There is absolutely nothing we can give to God that he needs, and nothing can measure the love and great things he has done in our lives. He deserves our praise and worship, and this song beautifully expresses that.
I must also acknowledge the excellent sound quality of the original track. The lead vocal, backup singers, and instrumentalists all did an outstanding job in their respective roles. Their dedication and commitment to the work of God are clearly reflected in the final output. I truly admire their skills and talent.
See lyrics below;
When I think upon Your goodness
And Your faithfulness each day
I'm convinced it's not because I am worthy
To receive the kind of love that You give
But I'm grateful for Your mercy
And I'm grateful for Your grace
And because of how You've poured out your Yourself
I have come to sing this song out in praise
Imela, Imela
Okaka, Onyekeruwa (Great and Might creator of the world)
Imela, Imela (Thank You! Thank You!)
Eze mo (My King)
