In any democratic country, every citizen is granted the right to vote. Each country sets a specific age limit that determines when a person becomes eligible to vote. While this right exists, exercising it is not mandatory; in other words, an eligible voter who does not wish to cast a ballot is under no compulsion to visit a polling station. However, governments often declare a public holiday on election days to ensure that every citizen has the opportunity to cast their valuable vote. Elections are the process through which citizens choose their representatives, and great effort is made to ensure the victory of the chosen candidate.

Many people believe that voting should be compulsory. If we look at the polling figures, then there is no hundred percent voting in it and sometimes 30%, sometimes 40% voting is not there or sometimes even more. If so many votes are not being held in any country, then it means that the people there do not like to vote or they are not happy with the schemes of the government. If a person is not happy with the plan of the current government, then for that he can vote for the candidate of any other party or there is also an option of NOTA, but if a person is not voting then this thing is a matter of little concern because not to vote is to not follow his duty in a way, it is the right of a person to vote. And if a person does not donate then it means that he is not worried about following his duties to the person.

Making voting mandatory for everyone could be a good option. Higher voter turnout ensures greater participation; if citizens are politically aware, they can hold underperforming parties accountable and vote for the right party to ensure its victory. Many people wonder what difference their single vote could possibly make, failing to realize that change only comes about when individuals vote one by one. Often, those who are disillusioned with politics choose not to vote—a sentiment that is understandable, given their dissatisfaction with the performance of the parties currently in power.

If the voting is made compulsory, then it will be another advantage that people will get a chance to know about the candidates and if those people go to vote, then those people will know which candidate is good and which candidate has what is the work and they will get to see the profile of every candidate in a way, which will make it possible that people in large quantities will get to see the profile of each candidate. You will be able to choose your right birth representative. It often happens that people do not take much interest in electoral issues, due to which people.

The more people participate in the electoral process and cast informed votes, the greater the public awareness will be. Currently, many treat voting merely as a formality, remaining indifferent to the benefits of electing a representative or understanding how to get their work done—overlooking many crucial aspects in the process. If people approach voting with greater awareness, an added benefit is that they will learn more about their other rights; this empowers them to take action in the future should they feel their rights are being violated or taken away.

While making this mandatory would certainly be a good option, there are instances where people cannot go to vote due to personal reasons, or because they live in remote areas and are unable to reach the polling station—often due to advanced age or mobility issues. Such individuals should be granted exemptions; however, those who are physically capable of visiting a polling station must definitely cast their vote. Voting is a right, and everyone should exercise it.
