Finally some sun again in Istria (Croatia)

We had three days of rain and wind and it wasn’t too pleasant to walk outside. Finally, some sunshine shone again. The north wind (bora) is still blowing, but it is not too strong. You need to dress warmly and have a hat on your head and a scarf around your neck.

The Alps as seen from Mareda (Croatia)

In cold weather, when the bora is blowing, the Alps can be seen beyond the sea in all their beauty and mightiness. It is difficult for me to say the exact location of these mountains, as the view is focused somewhere on the three borders between Italy, Austria and Slovenia. I will have to find out more about individual mountain peaks.

Church of St Pelagius and St Maximus - Novigrad

The Church of St Pelagius and St Maximus, commonly known to locals as the "Cathedral" dates back to the early Christian period – or, at least, in its first incarnation. Traces of early periods are read on the north longitudinal wall of the basilica where early Christian window frames were discovered in 1972.
The church was thoroughly renovated in 1408, 1580, 1746 and 1775.

Zidine (The Walls) - Novigrad

A walk along the walls in the old town of Novigrad sooner or later leads you to one of the exits to the sea. There you get a beautiful view of the blue sea, especially when the weather is sunny.

Novigrad

One of the smaller narrow streets in Novigrad-Cittanova. In summer, most shops and service stores are open late, but now, outside the tourist season, only a few places are open. The streets in old city center seem very empty these days.

One would think that people in coastal places eat mainly or exclusively fish and other seafood. Not so! A common picture in front of many restaurants here is a roast suckling pig, which is often attached to a pole above a fire or charcoal grill.

Maravea Aminess Camping Resort - Mareda

The camping resort Aminess Maravea in Mareda is closed now outside the season, but walking through the camp to the seaside is still possible. The blue sea on a sunny day and a view to the sailboat can always brighten person's day.

Take care and stay tuned! 🌤️
