Ruby snapper fishing

Huge Ruby snappers and Dogtooth Tuna caught at Dallas reef of the Spratly Island off the coast of Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. We paid RM18 k to charter the boat with a travelling time of 24 hours to reach the destination. 5 days fishing trip participating in the Sabah International Fishing Tournament. Despite the huge catch, even bigger ones were landed by the other participants on the other boats so our team did not manage to get any prizes, boohoo.

The bait for the ruby snapper was a large live squid which we manage to catch and directly bait it the night before. The strike was only during dawn when the sun was just about to rise. It took us just a few minutes to land with a big reel. Truly a good size game fish. The person in the picture is my cousin Chong Kok Wee, he didn’t manage to get any big ones so look on brother.
