As i said in my last post, i will write something about ONE of my gold checking methods. I promised to write how the acid works so enjoy my material! :)

So, let's begin. Generally I'm using just 3 acids, gold is known as 8k (333), 9k (375), 14k (585), 18k (750) and 24k (999).
585 - 58,5% pure gold, 750 - 75% pure gold etc.
Ofc there is also 50%, 91,6% and other purity but those are most popular in my country.

Basically, it's really simple, i will say it as easy as i can. Acid of power 500-600 won't hurt gold of purity 600. Acid of power 700-800 won't hurt gold of purity 800.

As an example i will take golden ring 585.

You have to make a mark on our special stone (i will write another article about it), put one little drop of every acid on the mark

Effects:

What can we notice there? Our ring didn't react at all with acid 200-400, 500-600 made it less visible and 700-800 totally burned it out. Last thing we have to do to be 100% sure, make a scratch on the ring with file and put a drop of Acid 500-600 on it. Why? Because 700-800 would burn the ring and 200-400 wouldn't have an effect at all.

Conclusion?

The ring didn't have any weird reactions, it's 58,5% pure gold. Why we made a scratch with file? To make sure it's not just gold plated. That's how we obtained 13,4g of gold. How much did I pay for it? About 320$.

How much did I pay? 320$
How much i will get for it? About 470$

REMEMBER!

Sometimes it's harder, sometimes the fake is so good, it's not possible to quickly check it and even jewelers are trading such a good fakes. That's just one of the methods!
