3 Original Pieces from the Heart: A Waltz, a Solo, and a Prelude.
So today, I thought I should share some of my musical compositions with the community; that is including the music itself, the story/inspirations behind them, a little analysis on each of the pieces, and of course, my usual blabber as always.
Care to listen?....
Waltz No.3 — in D flat Major
LoL, if procrastination was a type of food, I would've died long ago of obesity! Ha, in all honesty, I don't know why I procrastinated so much with this Waltz — especially with the coda.
Written some time early last year, Waltz No.3 is a short(around three minutes) piece for solo piano composed in the style of the Western Classical music's sub genre — Waltz. As the name implies, it's been written in 3/4 time and has that good ol fashion "1 - 2 -3" rhythm feeling to it.
In general, the Waltz is characterized by it's light hearted and humorous tone and can be quite virtuosic(technically challenging) at times in some passages.
Probably why a machine played this rendition instead👀
Funny thing, the first motif (those first 4 little opening bars) came to me out of nowhere if I'm being honest. So there i was, sitting in my balcony, not even dreaming of wanting to compose another Waltz when — BOOM! Out of the bloom came this little theme:
Soh - do - re - mi - fa - so - la - soh - fa - mi - re - doh - re - doh - re - doh - soh - doh
Lol, it makes more sense with the score😅
Of course, as it often is with random musical phrases that pop into my head every now and then, I quickly grabbed a pen and my scorebook, and frantically notated down the motif on score along with some few other sketches. And the end result after developing said theme: a mostly mediocre piano piece tbh XD
Now here's the procrastination part
If you skip to the ending part of the first piece, you'll hear this odd, virtuosic, cartoonist sounding coda(conclusion) bringing the Waltz to an end. Now, in as much as I completed the other sections in just a matter of 3 - 4 days, the coda actually took SIX MONTHS to complete! And it wasn't even due to something like creative slump or a well deserved hiatus or anything thing like that really. Nah... it was because of one and one thing only — my procrastinating ass!
I'll finish the ending next week...
I said.
Okay fine, next TWO weeks...
I said.
Shit... maybe next month?
I said.
Goodness gracious!!! It's next month already???... Okay, okay, I swear on my life that by next NEXT month, I would have been done with everything!
I said. Then fast forward to the ending of said year, and that would've been when I finally decided to SIT down, and actually START writing the coda.
Na - Echeta (The Remembering/Reminiscing)
Now, this was one of my earlier pieces. I wrote it when I was 15 or 16, I believe. The piece is characterized by it's simple left hand ostinato (repeated patterns) accompanying a much more technically difficult right hand with sweet melodies written in two voices.
The piece was actually inspired by a vacation I took with my family to my mother's maternal home(village).
Prelude No. 8 — in D Major
Actually, this one was written sometime this year! I really don't have much to say about it except that it's more or less an aesthetic sort of piece with easy arpeggios(broken chords) on the right hand, and accompanying basses on the left.
Ahh... I always imagined this piece would be perfect for autumn: maybe in a nice park with autumn leaves trailing the floor, maybe in a nice garden, or maybe even at an outdoor reception of a wedding or something, I don't know... just some where... peaceful :)
Das Ende :)
Anyway, that's all for now. I hope you enjoyed the pieces accompanied with all my blabber, as much as i enjoyed sharing them with you.
In the coming weeks, I would be sharing more of my compositions along with the inspirations/stories behind them.
But for now...
Farewell and Take care of yourself🤍
