With unusual fury, the month of June left its mark on Venezuela. The earth shook as it hadn't in a hundred years. At least two thousand lives were lost in this episode that has caught even science by surprise. How to begin the rescue when the rescuers themselves were buried under the rubble? Where to start the efforts if on every block there are floors upon floors collapsed on top of each other? How to reach building 100 if those on the third have not yet been rescued?

Sad is the balance, dramatic the figures that keep rising, even though we are barely beginning to count. How many years to rebuild what has fallen? How much time for the pain of absence to soothe?

In the middle of the streets, people are helping, lifting rubble, lending a hand, a hug, a comfort, snatching from death some of the lives it wanted to take. The solidarity of the neighbor, of the barrio, of the city, of the country, of the entire world.

In front of multiple keyboards, some are empathetic, contributing, guiding, getting help, while others contribute to the hell that nature started, with lies, misinformation, bad-mouthing, awakening the lowest passions...

In the end, the truth comes to light on its own, and we long for it to emerge soon, along with a dawn of peace, of tranquility, of hope, of optimism, of loving each other more, of supporting each other more, of becoming a single humanity that, as a single body, rises victoriously over all adversities, whether human or natural.

I accompany this post with the image of Fabiana, a 12-year-old girl who survived the tragedy and, with her best smile, waited for the rescue efforts to be completed. Her gesture became the greatest sign of hope for an entire country.
