SLIDING CARD, a very original and modern design (Eng-Esp)

My creative stationery business has definitely taken off, and although I had planned to start with a line of boxes in different shapes for parties, I've received requests for more varied projects, to which I've replied, "Yes, of course I can do it," because I'm convinced that with love and attention to every detail, I can deliver a quality product.

For a private party, I was asked to make 15 birthday cards featuring Tinkerbell. I created the cards with an innovative, original, and very eye-catching design: a "sliding card," which works perfectly because the client didn't want to include much information, just a fun way to remind her friends and family of the date and the neighborhood where her house is located.

Mi emprendimiento de Papelería Creativa despegó definitivamente, y aunque tenía en mente comenzar con una línea de cajas de diferente formas para fiestas, me ha llegado la solicitud de algunos trabajos más variados, a los cuales les he dicho "Si, claro que puedo hacerlo", porque estoy convencida que con amor y cuidado en cada detalle puedo entregar un producto de calidad.

Para una fiesta privada, me solicitaron 15 Tarjetas de Cumpleaños con el personaje de Tinkerbell. Las tarjetas las realicé con un diseño innovador, original y muy llamativo; una "Tarjeta Deslizable" que funciona perfecto porque la cliente no quería colocar mucha información, solo recordarles de forma divertida a sus amigos y familiares la fecha y el sector donde está ubicada su casa.

I first practiced this sliding card using regular paper, getting to know the design mechanics better, making adjustments to the size, and learning through trial and error.

I made a Tinkerbell design, which I wasn't happy with. If you look closely, the part that goes up was too light, and it was quite distracting because it didn't blend into the design. However, it did allow me to refine the design while holding the card in my hands. Another design I tried was one with Kuromi, a character I adore, and I did like it; it turned out cute. But I had already fallen in love with Tinkerbell, so I continued improving the design in Canva.

Esta Tarjeta Deslizable la he practicado primero utilizando papel normal, conociendo mejor la mecánica del diseño, realizando ajustes al tamaño, y aprendiendo por "Ensayo y Error".

Hice un diseño de Tinkerbell, que no me convenció, y es que si se fijan la parte que sube la hice clara y molestaba mucho porque no se integraba al diseño, pero me permitió ir definiendo teniendo la tarjeta en mis manos. Otro diseño que probé fue uno con Kuromi, que es un personaje que adoro y si me gustó, quedó tierna, pero ya me había enamorado de Tinkerbell así que seguí mejorando el diseño en Canva.

Once I had made the whole design more coherent, using the same color palette in all the images, I felt more in love with every detail and then I printed on a 230 GRAM PHOTOGRAPHIC PAPER SHEET, since with this thickness I would achieve that the card would have more structure and firmness to carry out the mechanics.

Una vez que había hecho más coherente todo el diseño, utilizando la misma paleta de colores en todas las imágenes, me sentí más enamorada de cada detalle y entonces imprimí en una HOJA DE PAPEL FOTOGRÁFICO DE 230 GRAMOS, ya que con este espesor lograría que la tarjeta tuviese más estructura y firmeza para realizar la mecánica.

To cut the pieces, I used my guillotine cutter for cleaner cuts, and it's also faster. In some parts, I used a craft knife and scissors.

Para cortar las piezas utilicé mi guillotina para lograr cortes más prolijos y además es más rápido. Y en algunas partes utilicé el cúter y la tijera.

There are four pieces: one with the front and back cover, which also has the folding mechanism; two with Tinkerbell images, one of which will be the front cover located on the folding mechanism, and the other on the inside; and the fourth piece, also part of the folding mechanism, which is used to pull and unfold the design. This way, the entire card fits perfectly on a single sheet of paper.

Las piezas son 4, una con la portada y contraportada que además tiene el sistema de doblar. Dos con imágenes de Tinkerbell que una será de portada ubicada en el sistema de doblar, y la otra en la parte interna. Y la cuarta pieza corresponde también al sistema de doblar, pero será la responsable de halar para desplegar el diseño. Así toda la tarjeta cabe perfectamente en una hoja.

I make the folds according to the design, using a ruler and awl. The front piece is cut into a rectangle using the folding technique, but leaving the top uncut.

Realizo los doblez según el diseño, utilizando regla y punzón. Y la parte frontal se corta el rectángulo con la mecánica de doblar pero dejando sin cortar la parte superior.

I made marks on the inside to properly center the image with the birthday girl's information, and I glued it on with liquid silicone.

The pull piece is placed on a fold at the bottom of the folding mechanism. This central piece is then folded where indicated in the design.

Hice unas marcas en la parte interna para establecer bien la imagen con la información de la cumpleañera de manera que quede centrada, y la pego con silicón líquido.

La pieza para halar se coloca en un doblez en la parte inferior de la pieza del sistema de doblar. Y esa pieza central se dobla donde se señala en el diseño.

Now all that remains is to close the card by joining the front and back pieces. If necessary, the top edge of the card can be further polished by trimming it with a guillotine cutter for a neater finish.

Ahora solo queda cerrar la tarjeta, uniendo para ello la pieza que contiene la parte frontal con la posterior. si es necesario se pule más la parte superior de la tarjeta cortando ese borde superior con la guillotina para que se vea más prolijo.

This is what my Sliding Card looks like on the front; I also took great care to ensure the back was consistent with the design and color palette, and when opened it looks like this.

Así luce mi Tarjeta Deslizable en su parte frontal, la parte posterior igualmente cuidé mucho que fuese coherente con el diseño y la paleta de colores, y cuando se abre luce de la siguiente forma.

The card works by pulling the top and sliding it until the image inside is revealed. Then, the design allows you to pull it back and close the card again.

It's a beautiful design, one that people love and really like. I posted it on my WhatsApp, and messages praising my product started pouring in.

La mecánica de la tarjeta es halar la parte superior, y deslizar hasta que se aprecie la imagen interna. Luego, el diseño permite que se regrese y se cierre de nuevo la tarjeta.

Es un diseño hermoso, que enamora y gusta muchísimo. La publiqué en mi WhatsApp y los mensajes alabando mi producto empezaron a llegar uno tras otro.

Once again, I want to emphasize the importance of investing in courses, workshops, and guides to prepare ourselves and stay up-to-date with new techniques. Everything invested will be recouped later if our goal is to become an entrepreneur.
