Apple Core Drawing and Interpretation

Hello everyone! Today I did a drawing of an apple core for some reason. I was looking for some inspiration to draw something and it suddenly hit my brain like a lightning to draw this particular subject. I didn't waste any time and just started drawing it in my bullet journal itself.

I didn't even bother making a basic outline using a pencil first like I always do. I just went in using a black gel pen which I also use to journal. I drew the upper section first like this and then I realized it needs to be uneven and not symmetrical. I made that adjustment later.

Here's the full basic drawing. I had to work with this to add more details to make it look better.

However, me being me, I am not a fan of monotonous artworks. They look great too but I don't really enjoy making much of them. So I added a pop of colour using a red highlighter. In order to emphasize more on the drawing itself, I decided to not add any more colours.

Then, I added some little lines and cross hatches to create some shadows to give the apple core a 3 dimensional look. I also added the ink to the pedicel which refers to the tiny woody stalk attached to the apple on top. Pedicel is a new word that I learned just now as I paused typing to search for the right word.

I added more of the cross hatches which are the little lines I made for shadows in the middle section as well. Otherwise it will look odd in comparison to the top and the bottom regions. I kept them mostly on the sides as the center is probably where the light hits and it's supposed to be highlighted meaning less lines drawn.

Lastly, I added some final touch ups where I darkened the outlines and added a few more details by letting go of the fear of messing up my little drawing. I don't know what came over me today as usually I'm quite anxious about using a pen to draw. I never add such bold looking details usually because I tell myself that I won't be able to remove them in case I overdo them.

This is the final outcome of my little drawing adventure today. These are the only two things I used to make this drawing. I guess today's theme is red and black because even my bullet journal cover is red and it has two bookmark ribbons, one being red and the other black, just like my drawing.

My thoughts

When I was done with the drawing, I was pondering for a moment thinking what could it mean. An apple core is what's left after we have eaten the fruit. My interpretation seemed dark like the end of something which fell in line with the dark gothic vibes of the red and black shades.

Just for the satisfaction of my curious mind, I ran it on an AI app and asked it to interpret it as a tarot card. It said that my drawing has the energy of the death card which does mean the ending of something, transformation and the beginning of something new. It seems fitting as the apple core, although means the remains of something that has been consumed, it still contains the seeds for new life and fruits of the future.

Now my drawing has some meaning I guess and I think this is a fun thing that I can do when I draw spontaneously. I'm thinking of making it a habit to write up possible interpretations of my random artworks in my journal. Perhaps it represents something of my subconscious.

Thank you for dropping by and I hope I didn't bore you with my interpretation section. Wishing everyone a wonderful day ahead!
