Night Flight owl prints

A few weeks ago, my wife and i took a reduction printmaking course. I have been a fan of printmaking for quite some time but I had not done any since my university days. Reduction printmaking is really intriguing because you make each layer of colour by cutting away more of the block print each pass. This means yoy end up with a truely limited set of block prints and the block is mostly used up by the end. Both of these concepts very much appeal to me.

For this one, it was more to dip my toes in the water and play with the process. I wanted to do something a bit illustration like in concept with a bit of the esoteric. So the idea of the owl and the waxing and waning moon. I think i was a bit more ambitious for a first go than what my skill level was at, but it was incredibly fun.

We have been talking about taking another class. It is interesting thinking about printing in layers like this and how I now tend to look at things in the world around me and see the layers. Cheers!
