Sketch!!!

“Will angels be proud of us if they can see us?”

I don’t know but it’s what I have in mind when I’m sketching. I wanted to draw something but work seemed to daunting, I felt like I have to be serious, think about all of my decisions thoughtfully so I pick up my pencil and started to sketch, just mindlessly and see where it takes me…

I’ve been inspired by John singer Sargent charcoal sketches, they’re so womderful! The way he uses the slightes of values to depict his portraits and the sharpness of the dark edges and the control to lay precise edges is amazing for me.

…and like always I try to imitate it…

That’s why the head portrait reminiscent of the classical portrait of a lady look. But my style and love of the use of eyelashes comes in and meddle and mixed into a little bit!

Haha! Albeit subpar and sadly my sense of values and control of edges is nowhere near that of the master of portraits, but I like the end result anyway! I think I did a good job of getting it on paper, not forcing what to draw and just stay relaxed as I let the act of creating takes me. although the techniques leave a lot to be desired, I like the way it looks! ^^ I mean we all start somewhere right?
