[Cooking with @wanderwithtwo] Homemade dimsim 🥟

Hello everyone 👋

Last weekend we spontaneously decided to join my family for lunch as my mum wanted to try out her new roti presser to make dimsim that we eat at yumcha. At first when I heard that she was making dimsim with a roti press, I couldn’t get my head around it as she didn’t specify what dimsim and how. Curious, I decided to pop by for lunch.

When I got there, she has already started making them and was pretty much almost done making them and having them cooked. I missed out on seeing how she made the dimsim wraps from scratch so I can’t share the recipe with you.

It was extremely simple though with the rest of the process. You just have to get a bit of the dough, roll it into a ball and place it on the roti presser to get it nicely round and flat.

She then placed it on a dumpling press and generously filled it with the stuffing. She told me that making these dimsim at home meant that you can put whatever ingredients you want in it. Her choice for the fillings were eggs, walnut, black fungus, pork mince and preserved cabbage.

She then steamed them for approximately 10 minutes and it was ready to be devoured!

It was delicious! She made quite a fair bit but we finished them all as it was really good. As it was such a success, we’ve put in a request that she makes prawn dumplings (har gao) next time.

In case you’re interested, she bought the roti press from Amazon. It’s also called tortilla press.

I’m looking forward to see what else she can make with this new toy of hers. I definitely want her to try making prawn dumplings, that’s for sure.
