The border between Bulgaria and North Macedonia ... 2252 meters above sea level!

I had never entered another country before, just passing by a rock.

You can do this in the Osogovo mountain and in particular on Ruen peak. All you have to do is climb 2252 meters above sea level.

On one side is Bulgaria, on the other is Northern Macedonia. We even met Macedonians who said that they often make excursions between the two countries on foot.

Locals told us that this road is used by cigarette smugglers, who import the valuable goods into Bulgaria and then into the European Union.

Also in recent years, whole groups of refugees from Syria and Iraq have been searching for ways to Western Europe through the Balkans.

Border guards used night-vision goggles and heat-sensing cameras to catch passers-by. However, there is no problem for tourists, as they can be checked and released. We personally had no problems with the law.

Now I will tell you briefly about our trip that we did with my friends.

The mountain itself is very beautiful and offers magnificent views. he slopes are not very steep, but you have to walk really long.

You can also get in by car, but you will lose all the pleasure. This is the only car we allowed ourselves to get on ;)

We also came across one that definitely deserved a photo break. Such views will be increasingly rare soon.

The way down is always more pleasant, especially if it is not too steep.

We slept in tents at night, but did not feel any discomfort because we were too tired.
