Shadow Work: Jealousy or Envy

Jealousy or envy is often perceived as something negative in the society. When we feel it, we often tend suppress it to avoid being judged, and even shamed. It's a human emotion that we are taught to suppress instead of actually trying to understand it.

What if we looked at it at a signal instead of suppressing it?

It's a feeling that normally arise when we see someone or something that already possess something we desire, something we are consciously or subconsciously aiming for. We rarely envy things we don't want, even if they're objectively good. If there's no desire, there's no envy.

We often envy things that we know can be able to achieve, but we are not at the point to actually get them. Our minds recognize the potential, but there's just something internal or external that won't let us.

What if we start to actually it to our advantage by evaluating the things that actually blocks us from getting there? Use it as a blueprint of what we are aiming at? Look at it as a physical features of what we subconsciously aim?

Instead of suppressing it, admit the feeling, and view it as a signal. Your brain signaling you on the parts of you that are ready to grow. This way it's nolonger toxic, it won't evolve into resentment or insecurity. It becomes a compass.

This is shadow work. Reclaiming a part of ourselves that was never meant to be an enemy, just a messenger.
