Scapegoat Theory
While this is not exclusively the domain of the ideological left, it is being practiced en masse by progressives at the moment. They have an emotional need to be rid of their shame, their inability to discover meaning, and their inability to live a purposeful life, and they accomplish this by scapegoating those who actually are able to discover meaning and live purposeful lives. In short, they are envious, and this leads to the unconscious scapegoating of those that they are envious of.
"Scapegoat theory refers to the tendency to blame someone else for one’s own problems, a process that often results in feelings of prejudice toward the person or group that one is blaming. Scapegoating serves as an opportunity to explain failure or misdeeds, while maintaining one’s positive self-image. [...] Essentially, scapegoating generally employs a stand-in for one’s own failures so that one doesn’t have to face one’s own weaknesses."
