I have been creating some art for the HIVE community in the last few weeks, but I haven't created a post in here yet. So I thought why not say hi to the Sketchbook community as well 👋

WARM UP

I am currently going through a bit of a transition phase where I feel that my art is good, but I hit a wall. And I have been talking with my teacher at university about it as well. And he basically told me, that if I want to improve further I have to work on my fundamentals. So that's what I am trying to do now.

I started doing some of these basic drawing exercises, that should improve my stroke a lot if I do these exercises regularly. They look very basic but try drawing an accurate circle free hand. Or a triangle with 3 equally long sides. And lets not talk about the star 😅 It definitely is a bit of a challenge. So that's what I have been doing these past few days... amongst other things of course 😄

QUICK PORTRAITS

Another very good exercise to improve your drawing skills apparently is to try and do these rather quick portraits. I bought this Book called "The Ultimate guide to drawing". Which is a 600 page thick book, because I am quite determined to get better. And they say, do quick portraits and your drawing skills will improve enormously.

Well.. so I tried my first one a few days ago 🤷‍♂

I got to say that drawing portraits is nothing I am very confident in doing. But sometimes you just got to get out of your comfort zone to get better at something.

What I also have to say that this ended up being not a "quick" portrait. I worked on it quite a bit because I had to do a lot of corrections. And I still could do a lot more. But then It would probably lose the whole characteristic of it being a sketch. Which it almost has at this point.

But well... the only way is up and got to keep working to improve.

FINAL RESULT

Overall I am very happy with the final result. It's definitely not perfect, but how can it be. It's my first real try at a portrait in ages. Looking forward to doing more in the future.
