Mexico Are Starting to Look Like Real Contenders
I have to admit, Mexico really impressed me in this game. Before kick-off, I felt they had a good chance of winning, but I was not expecting such a comfortable performance against Ecuador.

The delayed start because of the thunderstorm added a bit of drama to the occasion, but once the match finally got underway, Mexico looked ready from the very first minute. They played with confidence, pressed high up the pitch, and never gave Ecuador much room to breathe.
Julián Quiñones was outstanding. His goal was the perfect reward for Mexico's fast start. The way he cut inside before finding the top corner showed both confidence and quality. Moments like that can completely change the mood of a game.
I was also happy to see Raúl Jiménez get on the scoresheet. He's been around for a long time, and it's always nice to watch experienced players step up on the big stage. His finish was calm, powerful, and exactly what his team needed before halftime.
What stood out to me the most was how Mexico handled the second half. They did not rush or lose their shape. Instead, they stayed patient, kept the ball moving, and made Ecuador chase the game. It wasn't the most exciting half of football, but it showed maturity and discipline.
Ecuador, on the other hand, never really looked like mounting a comeback. As the game went on, frustration started to show, and the late red card for Piero Hincapié was a disappointing way for them to finish their World Cup campaign.
Now all eyes are on the possible clash between Mexico and England. Of course, England still have to beat DR Congo first, but if that happens, we could be in for one of the biggest matches of the knockout stage. Playing Mexico at the Azteca Stadium, with thousands of passionate home fans behind them, is a challenge that no team would enjoy.
Looking at Mexico's tournament so far, it's hard not to be impressed. Four wins from four matches, eight goals scored, and not a single goal conceded is an incredible record. More importantly, they seem to be improving with every game they play.
I still think there are stronger favourites to win the World Cup, but Mexico are quietly building momentum. If they keep playing with this level of confidence and organization, I honestly believe they could surprise a lot of people before this tournament is over.
What do you think? Can Mexico continue this impressive run, or will a stronger opponent finally stop them?
