Beach Butt time in the ehm alleged Scottish summer

We have been having some gloomy weather lately, at some point in the day it rains and it only seems to brighten up about 6pm!

This is a collection of pictures from my walk to our local beach which is about seven minutes away in Kirkcaldy, Scotland.

The first thing that you will notice is the ships.

The water is the Firth of Forth and there are always tankers going to and from Grangemouth refinery.

There are only little carriers not like the super sized ones you get.

On the way to the beach promenade is a car park and this wee raven decided it was a good place for a nap! I feared he was dead at first, but after watching him he did finally move his head!

There is a burn (stream) that runs past my house and flows into the sea, it splits the beach in two. This is the right hand side of the beach.

Crazy people trying to paddle in the sea, it is cold!

The seagulls don't mind the cold though.

Then I saw more ravens napping, so that is how they sleep after all. They are not injured as I feared with the one in the car park earlier.

It turns out that the seagulls rest their legs the same way and have a wee sit down.

These houses have a good view of the beach and passing maritime trade. The concrete blocks are a throwback to World War 2 and to prevent tanks or landing craft coming up the beach into town.

The estuary has quite a few islands in it, they usually have some sort of lighthouse or automated light on them.

As was the case of that island. I can imagine many worse locations to be stationed as a lighthouse keeper than this one!

Now we are looking at the other side of the beach and there are three tower blocks that overlook the beach. The promenade has railings running along it, and this raven decided to have a perch.

This one was on its own, which made me think it might be a crow, as they tend to be solitary. It is darn impossible telling ravens crows and rooks apart!

We have wind power. In the bay there are a couple of wind turbines. One thing Scotland has is WIND and WATER so we need to be making more use of our natural resources in my opinion. Does your country have much in the way of marine wind turbines to generate power?

Back to the beach and someone was hungry!

He was just checking the coast was clear and nobody else was going to claim it!

Cool, I can get dug in he thought!

The paper bag probably had some food product in it that had been purchased at the local Morrison's grocery store that overlooks the beach.

The horizon always showing us ships.

I thought I would have seen some four legged friends not just the two legged variety!

These seagulls are pesky wee buggers but they are cute when they sleep like this!

We use seagull as a generic term but there are loads of gull breeds.

You can tell that those two are different breeds, just look at their beaks!

And there we have a couple of butts on the beach!

They even got the raven to turn its head:)
