Microsoft: Open Source AI That Finds Software Bugs
Microsoft is one of the companies that is starting to embrace open source. This is especially true when it comes to AI.
It was announced that Microsoft has open sourced an AI program that will go through millions of lines of code to find security flaws. This will save a lot of time trying to fix bugs.
“Every day, software developers stare down a long list of features and bugs that need to be addressed. Security professionals try to help by using automated tools to prioritize security bugs, but too often, engineers waste time on false positives or miss a critical security vulnerability that has been misclassified,” wrote Microsoft senior security program manager Scott Christiansen and Microsoft data and applied scientist Mayana Pereira in a blog post. “We discovered that by pairing machine learning models with security experts, we can significantly improve the identification and classification of security bugs.”
Robo-Hacker is going to save $113 billion that is spent annually on finding and fixing bugs.
The power of AI is enormous yet it is scary when only in the hands of mega-corporations. It is uplifting that a company like Microsoft is starting to embrace it.
While there are plenty of reasons to not trust a company like this, we are seeing a shift in mindset. In the meantime, the open source, decentralized community needs to take some of these opportunities while expanding their platforms.
