Sinking into patterns - Kindness Rocks

I keep a number of rocks in my drawer so that whenever I feel, I can make a—successful or unsuccessful—attempt to create something on them. And by now, you must have realized that I mostly use my sister's colors, since she is the artist in our family.

I was alone today to paint this rock, and I didn't have any particular idea in mind regarding what to create on it. At first, I thought about painting a ladybug, but that idea has likely been overused; so, I wanted to create something new and abstract—even though, in reality, it wasn't exactly new.

I filled the color palette with water and sat down with the rock in front of me. I spent a while pondering which colors to use for the coating. I considered creating geometric patterns—perhaps star-like designs—composed entirely of lines. Initially, I thought about planning the design out, but then I decided to simply start drawing lines; I would just trust the process and see what process holds for us.

When I applied the black acrylic paint over that rough, uneven surface, the excess water caused it to run a bit and prevented an even finish; however, I felt that this particular texture actually looked good—it gave the impression of gold visible beneath the surface. Although I have never actually seen gold being extracted from rocks in real life, it is a fact that gold is indeed mined from them.

Initially, I had thought about using standard paints on the rock, but then I decided to use a type of marker-like paint that works well over acrylics without bleeding or spreading; ordinary markers tend to spread on rocks and create a rough finish, whereas these work beautifully.

I drew some lines, anticipating that they would form a series of geometric patterns that would eventually converge; however, that didn't quite work out. I ended up having to create a flower-like structure in the center—which I initially sketched roughly before painting it red—and it started to look as though I was drawing the Kenyan flag. I have no idea why the Kenyan flag kept coming to mind.

So, here I am presenting today’s rock art -[it’s sort of different]. Even I am trying to figure out exactly what I’ve created, but I really like it; I simply painted whatever came to mind without seeking inspiration from anywhere else,I just went with the flow of my thoughts as I worked.
