[Movie] Michael-2026- Beyond my expectation.

Okay, I'll be honest, I've been looking forward to watching this one for a while and it mostly delivered exactly what I was hoping for... There's something special about watching a biopic where you can tell everyone involved actually cared about getting the details right, and that care really shows here, especially in the music.

Jaafar Jackson, in his first-ever film role, is genuinely the reason this movie works as well as it does. The fact that he's Michael's actual nephew adds this extra layer of authenticity that you just can't fake the way he moves, the vocal inflections, the mannerisms, it's uncanny at times. Watching the concert sequences, you completely forget you're watching a performance rather than archival footage. Whoever choreographed and staged those recreations put in serious work, and it shows in every frame.... the costumes, the stage lighting, the way the camera moves during the big performance numbers, it's all clearly built by people who studied the real footage obsessively rather than just approximating a vibe.

The supporting cast brings a lot to this too. Colman Domingo as Joe Jackson and Nia Long as Katherine give the family dynamic real weight, and Miles Teller and Larenz Tate both do solid work in the industry-side roles, giving you a sense of the machine that helped build Michael into a phenomenon. There's a real loving-craftsmanship quality to how this whole era gets recreated... the Motown years, the Jackson 5 stage shows, the slow transformation into a solo superstar.. and if you grew up with this music, watching those moments come back to life on screen hits in a genuinely emotional way.

I'll say this too: I appreciate that the film chose to focus tightly on Michael's rise rather than trying to cram his entire life into one movie. Ending where it does, right around Off the Wall, lets the film breathe and actually sit with his childhood and early career instead of rushing through everything to check boxes. It's clearly setting up a second film to cover the rest of his story, and honestly, I'm on board for that if it means each chapter gets the space it deserves.

If I'm being fully honest with myself, I do think it's worth going in with clear eyes about what kind of movie this is — it's a warm, loving tribute made with the full cooperation of Michael's family and estate, which means it leans into celebration more than hard-nosed scrutiny, and there are chapters of his life it doesn't touch at all in this installment. That's a fair thing to know going in. But taken on its own terms as a lovingly crafted, musically spectacular tribute to Michael's rise..... it delivered exactly the kind of experience I was hoping for.
