Weekly Garden & Greenhouse Update - by Sunscape

Yellow Tulips to brighten up your day. Another week has flown by, and it is almost May. I took a quick photo before the rain starts this afternoon. We are supposed to be hit with a major thunderstorm and the weather station has issued a tornado warning for western, N.Y.

The strawberry plants are taking well to their new home in the tower garden. There are a few flowers on two of the plants already. I'm not anticipating much fruit for the first year, but we shall see.

The butterfly garden is planted with the annuals I grew, and the butterfly house is hanging in the hydrangea tree. All I have left to plant are the sunflowers and border Zinnias.

The Daffodils are in full bloom around the yard, and the pink Candytuft is so pretty. Grape Hyacinthe have popped up everywhere throughout the gardens. I don't know how they manage to colonize in places they were not planted.

The Freesia plant is still beautiful that I purchased even with some of the blooms withering.

All of the tower gardens are doing well by the back porch. I have radish, lettuce, spinach, parsley, cutting celery and cilantro in the smaller towers. Radicchio is planted in the top of the larger tower where I will plant bush beans this week.

All of the Peony plants are getting tall and ready to leaf out. Before I know it they will be in full bloom.

The Hydroponic lettuce and Bok Choi is ready to be harvested. I'm going to make a Korean soup this week for dinner with some of it.

The pepper and tomato plants are ready to be planted, but I'm holding off until later this week. We still have two nights that will get down to 40° F. Once that passes, they are getting planted asap.

Nasturtiums and Cosmos are going out into the garden today, along with the Marigolds.

This is the new variety I ordered, called Strawberry Blond. I thought it was Strawberry Blush, but I wrote Blond on the tag, so now I know it's real name. I think it is by far the prettiest Marigold I've ever grown.

All the sunflower seeds are poking through the soil. I have to plant them in the greenhouse because the squirrels always dig up the seeds after I plant them directly. Hopefully, they won't mind being transplanted too much.

The seeds I saved from last year's border Zinnias are all different in color. They must have cross-pollinated with another variety I had. It will be interesting to see how they grow this season.

I grew three flats of Impatiens for the shady areas of the garden. Plus, I put them into hanging baskets for the back porch. The hummingbirds love visiting these plants throughout the day.

Yesterday, I made up two hanging baskets with these flowers. They should do very well together. I really like the tiny pink flowers with the blue Lobelia. It should make a pretty basket once it fills in. I will hang them on the hook by the pond so I can see them easily.

Today, I have to decide where to plant all these white Gladiola bulbs. That is going to be hard to decide since I don't have a lot of places that get a lot of sun. lol
