Plumbing Issues - Epoxy Coating the Line - by Sunscape
When your drain slows down, and the plumber has to come out to snake and clear the clog, then tells you that the galvanized pipe has a 1-foot-long hole due to corrosion. Mind you, the drain line runs underneath the cement floor and our furnace. Apparently, the corrosion is 17' out from the access point of the drain. That is a long way.
At first, they thought that the furnace would have to be removed and the concrete broken out to access the pipe for repair.
After doing some technical procedures to get all the needed images for the repair, the manager suggested that we have the line coated with epoxy instead of tearing up the entire floor area and removing the furnace.
Needless to say, I was not prepared for the enormous cost of doing the job. Funny how life can throw you a curveball when you least expect it. One week later, the team arrived and set up the staging area for their tools in the family room.
Thankfully, I did not have to remove all the shelving that my seedlings were growing on. They had just enough room to access the pipe once I removed a smaller shelf unit next to the sink. The photo's reddish tone is due to the LED grow lights.
So far, they have put three coats of epoxy through the line, and it took them 9.5 hours because they had to use a drying technique between each coating. Meanwhile, we were not able to use any water, which was not too bad considering.
That was two days ago, and this morning they are returning to send a camera into the line to make sure everything is as it should be. If not, they will be here to do another coating. Let's hope that is not the case.
