I really like Mexican coins, especially the old ones. However, my first Mexican coin was a modern day 1 Onza, better know now as a Libertad.

I was fortunate in my early days of stacking to find some good deals on these coins, including a 2oz and a 5oz version, along with some proofs of various fractional sizes. These led me to the cool old coins I'm finding today but it all started with a 1oz, .999 Libertad.

When I browse silver sites, I see that a fraction of some of the more popular world bullion coins get graded by NGC or PCGS. They even have gimmicks like "first strike" or "first day" printed right on the label of some of these 🤦‍♀

This never interested me until I started thinking about having a top-grade Libertad to compare and contrast my ungraded coins to. I thought it'd be fine to pay the premium to a respected coin grading company to get a pristine example of one of my favorites and in Las Vegas last March, the opportunity presented itself.

At the coin show there were many to choose from and I found a guy I liked with a fine deal so I bought one!

Obviously, these folks at NGC don't really look at all the coins from the mint for these MS70🙄 mint coins. Or the guy was thinking about getting a bag of Fritos on his break when this one went by.

Who am I kidding though? The real moral of the story is, I guess the guy that bought this should have paid closer attention instead of trusting this shit.

I know it's still nice, and it is still an ounce so gotta take that fake-win xD
